Who We Are
In February of 2018, a group of Union County business leaders announced plans to form a de novo bank. De novo refers to a newly chartered bank founded independently of any other financial institutions. Union County has always supported a locally owned, locally managed bank. The group chose the name “American Bank” with the name giving a nod to the legacy built by the late Eura DuVal “Ed” Gaskins, former president of the original American Bank & Trust that had been headquartered in Monroe since 1930.
The group chose 40-year banking veteran William R. “Randy” Adcock to lead the effort to bring community banking back to the Union County area. The community business leaders leading the de novo effort are David Cuthbertson, Chief Executive of True Homes USA and newly named Chairman of the Board, Frank Howey who oversees one of the largest farming operations in the Carolinas, and Wes Hinson, local attorney with the firm of Hinson-Faulk and the Bank's newly named Vice-Chairman of the Board. Jennifer W. Harris has been named the Bank’s Chief Financial Officer, Philip Presson has been named the Bank’s Chief Credit Officer. Frank Aikmus and Steve Barnes, will be Market Executives. Longtime community banker Angela S. Helms will be the Bank's Branch Administrator.
